Scotland 02-Sep-05 No-one knows how many such workers are in the country The Scotsman   Lothian and Borders Police are trying to determine how many illegal immigrants are currently in Scotland.  Assistant chief constable Tom Halpin said he suspects immigrant workers are being ruthlessly exploited in factories, as crop pickers and as prostitutes.

  09-Sep-05 UN Kosovo police arrested for sex trafficking ISN   UN police and local Kosovo Police Service arrested an international policeman and two local police officers suspected of human trafficking. Amnesty International says the presence of international peacekeepers in Kosovo has been fuelling the sexual exploitation of women and encouraging trafficking. AI claims that UN and NATO troops are using trafficked women and girls for sex and have been involved in trafficking itself.

United Kingdom 16-Sep-05 Jail for human trafficker kingpin BBC News   Viktoras Larcenko, 25, pleaded guilty and jailed for 10 years.  "Mastermind" of human trafficking gang who brought Lithuanian girls to the UK and forced into prostitution.  Larcenko ran operation with his sister Rita. Rita Larcenko , 20, sentenced to 14 years for conspiracy to traffic in prostitution, conspiracy to kidnap and money laundering.  Jason Tai - 15 years for conspiracy to traffic in prostitution, rape and living on prostitution Dan Ket Duong , 45, - 30 months for conspiracy to traffic in prostitution. Salina Abdul-Rahim , 40 - three years for money laundering and exercising control over prostitution.  Further details about case given.
United Kingdom 16-Sep-05 CPS continues fight against sex trade traffickers Crown Prosecution Service   "Viktoras Larcenko, the last member of a gang convicted for smuggling girls from Lithuania in 2003 and forcing them into prostitution with threats and violence. In total the gang received 51 years. So far this year the Crown Prosecution Service has prosecuted four similar human trafficking cases and seen 15 individuals convicted. The majority of cases concern trafficking into forced prostitution from Eastern Europe. Traffickers have been of Albanian, Kosovan, Macedonian and Lithuanian origin and some of the female victims are Russian, Estonian and Lithuanian. A further three cases and six defendants are awaiting trial. It is believed that human trafficking is the third most profitable activity for organised crime after drugs and arms dealing."  Further details given.

Hugh Neilson allegedly admitted paying for sex at sauna. Neilson found in waiting room of "sauna" during raid by police investigating sex trafficking. Neilson had been a permanent sheriff since 1996, earning £113,121 in Hamilton's children's court. He is now working for Glasgow legal firm Harper Macleod as a litigation consultant.

  "In light of the Corps zero tolerance stance no Marine, Sailor or civilian Marine will ever participate in any crime associated with trafficking in persons, no matter how small the association. Doing so will result in severe punishment. Even small crimes, not usually associated with human trafficking, aid in the spread of it. Crimes such as buying or soliciting prostitution are condoning this human slave trade."
