Security Minister and Chair of Organised Crime Task Force Ian Pearson From their website: "Many immigrants are in the United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland legally, however intelligence suggests that a few individuals based in Northern Ireland are involved in facilitating the trafficking of foreign nationals in the country for money. While the picture for the rest of the United Kingdom is unclear, in London it appears that foreign prostitutes, especially from the Balkans and former Soviet Union, and from the Far East especially Thailand, now dominate the ‘off-street’ vice trade. If the situation in London is typical of the rest of the UK, it would suggest that a few hundred women may be trafficked to the UK each year to work in the vice trade. The increase in direct flights from a number of European destinations, including Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Alicante and Malaga may increase the scope for illegal immigrants to enter Northern Ireland." |
